And We're Waiting . . .

No bowel tones yet. She is still having quite a bit of output from her NG tube, which is completely normal. We are just waiting for her stomach and bowels to wake back up from the trauma of surgery. We decided to try the morphine, and the doctor wrote it for every two hours. We really want to get rid of this peripheral IV and just use the PICC line. They wanted to give the PICC time overnight to see if it is indeed flowing better than before before they pull the peripheral. At Children's they have Teams. Like the Surgical Team, Pain Team, IV Team. I couldn't imagine being a nurse on the IV Team, dealing with kids all day that are not especially pleased to see me. Talk about patient people, or gluttons for punishment!

So the next few days we spend waiting for bowel tones and passing some gas. These are signs that things are starting to wake up. Then we will be able to take out the NG Tube as well. Yumi has some redness around her incision that the docs are watching.

Hey, here's a shout out to Princess! Thanks for reading our blog! You are one special nurse!
